Thusanang Child Care Centre (registered Non-Profit Organisation 050-442) is a small creche in Soshanguve that we have supported for over 10 years. It was all started by Petrus and his wife, Adelaide when they saw the need for a safe environment for kids who have lost parents/guardians and had no where else to be. It was started in their own home, and over the years it has grown to a small child centre for up to 60 kids (ages 0-5). They have moved to a seperate property, and over the years they have managed to build more classrooms and create a better space for all the children.
At this stage, they receive a ‘school fee’ from only about 10% of the kids attending – it is mostly families that cannot afford any schooling. So for the last few years, they have become dependent on people’s help and donations. Their monthly expenses include small salaries for all the caregivers working there (currently 7), monthly gas (which is used to cook meals for the kids daily) and electricity. This is roughly R13 000 a month to keep them going.
